National Hydrology Project has been gradually making significant strides in spite of COVID situation to achieve its objective of unifying the nationwide water resources information, making it available, analysing the issues and delivering solutions as well as developing strength to sustain the efforts. However, in order to ensure that the project benefits are delivered to the stakeholders prior to completion of the project, course corrections for the slacks are being taken up with immediate effect.

Considering the remaining period of only 2.5 years of NHP, the implementation process is to be accelerated in a mission mode. The allocations which have been made to the IAs as per their Project Implementation Plans must be executed by the end of current financial year. In order to complete award of all contracts before ending the current financial year, i.e., March 2022. The process for revision of PIP, based on gap analysis, must be finalised by November 2021. The relevant issues and specific action points for each of the agencies have been formulated through a series of review meetings held by Shri Subodh Yadav, Joint Secretary (A, IC&GW), DoWR, RD & GR and Project Coordinator of National Hydrology Project (NHP) zone wise.

NHP Review Meeting with Hon’ble Minister

A review on National Hydrology Project was taken up by the Hon’ble Minister, MoJS on 9th November 2021 at Shram Shakti Bhawan New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Secretary Sir, MoJS, Additional Secretary Ma’am, Joint Secretary Sir (A, IC & GW), DoWR, RD & GR. The meeting was focused on the role of NHP in dealing with data acquisition, the overall progress of NHP in various sections – RTDAS/ Finance/ SCADA/ PDS /DATA /Hydromates/Piezometers/ Status of Data Centres, etc.

Zone-wise Review Meeting in Kolkata

Zone-wise review meeting of National Hydrology Project (NHP) was held on 2nd November 2021 at Kolkata, chaired by Joint Secretary (A, IC&GW) Sh. Subodh Yadav, IAS & Project Coordinator, NHP. Shri. Prabhat Mishra, Principal Secretary, Government of West Bengal, and senior officers of East and North Eastern states had attended the review meeting.

JS reviewed the physical and financial progress of East & North Eastern Zone implementing agencies including Kerala SW at Vedic Village, Kolkata. All the officers of NPMU and experts of TAMC had participated in the meeting. Followed by this review meeting, a zonal review meeting was held the next day. The key things discussed in the meeting were technical aspects like State WRIS and the use of RS and GIS in Planning, Designing, and Impact Assessment for the IAs.

NPMU and TAMC Field Visit to WB

On 3rd November 2021, a site inspection was initiated at ARG site, Uttarbhag, West Bengal ARG, DWLR, Bikash Bhawan by Sh. Kushagra Sharma, Senior Joint Commissioner, NPMU along with Sh. Santosh Singh, TAMC expert. The purpose of site visits was basically about verifying technical tools and functionalities, also a demonstration of data logger (SP, R-16, R-64, Gamma, etc) by the team SWID. During the visit, the SJC-II provided due suggestions to the State officers concerned for further improvement.

NPMU Review meeting with CWC

NPMU, New Delhi held a review meeting on 17th Nov’ 21 with CWC and NER IAs. The discussion took place about existing bottlenecks in the implementation of RTDAS activities and their solutions.

NWIC Online Training on WIMS

On 9th Nov' 2021, National Informatics Centre (NWIC), a Central Agency under National Hydrology Project (NHP) under Ministry of Jal Shakti, DoWR RD & GR has conducted an online training on “WIMS Training-Station Management, WIMS MIS Dashboard, Email & SMS and Manage Contacts” in the context of WIMS. This training was conducted by Mr. Meet Kumar Agarwal from NWIC. The training consisted of key contents like Water Information Management System (WIMS), User Management, telemetry, and so on. There were 12 active participants represented in the event from different State Water Resource Departments.

NRSC 3rd Webinar Series

On 10th November 2021, NRSC had organized a 3rd webinar series on “Snow Cover Dynamics and Snowmelt Runoff Products & Services - Indian Himalayan River Basins”. The webinar provided an overview on snow-cover dynamics, snow-melt runoff modeling, and forecasting including input data used, processing of satellite-derived information (snow cover area, snow albedo, LST, AOD, water vapor, ozone, cloud cover, etc), computation of net radiation and estimation and forecasting of spatial snow-melt rate. This program was facilitated by Dr. P . V . Raju, NRSC, Dr. V. V. Rao, the Group Director, NRSC, and Nodal Officer for NHP gave an inaugural address of the event. Sh. Rakesh Kashyap, SJC-I has made an inaugural address of the event. Dr. Simhadri Rao, NRSC has made the presentation.

“Arc Hydro Ground Water” Training by World Bank

A flagship online training was organized by World Bank on “Arc Hydro Ground Water” from 9th to 12th of November 2021. There were 30 active participants who had attended this training from NWIC, NIH, WRDs from Kerala, Karnataka, UP, TN, Sikkim, WB, Odisha, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and ESRI. The instructor was Mr. Todd Wood from AQUVEO, USA, who gave excellent presentations impacting 30 active participants’ learning and practice. Dr.Anju Gaur, TTL, World Bank had facilitated the entire 4 days’ training.

NWIC Online Training on India WRIS

On 12th Nov’ 2021, NWIC had organized a virtual training program on "India WRIS". It was facilitated by Ms. Sneha from NWIC. There were 30 attendees had participated in the training. The training had a combination of presentations and hands-on sessions.

CPCB Online Training on “Analysis of Sea Water Quality”

An online training was organized on 15th November 2021 by CPCB on the topic of "Analysis of Sea Water Quality" conducted by NCCR, Chennai. There were around 50 participants participated in the event. CPCB organized this online training through the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR). The key contents and presentations covered were Coastal Monitoring Program - An overview, Marine Litter quantification along Indian coastal water, Marine ecotoxicology- Development of seawater quality criteria, and so on.

NRSC 4th Webinar Series on its Products & Services

On 17th November 2021, NRSC had organized a 4th Webinar of the series on 'Inventory & Prioritization of Glacial Lakes and GLOF modelling in the Himalayan Region of Indian River Basins'. The webinar provided an overview on inventory, prioritization and GLOF modelling of glacial lakes including input data used, mapping of glacial lakes and their attributes generation, prioritization using satellite derived parameters and GLOF modelling of glacial lakes. There were 17 participants present in this event. It was followed by an online demo of above products hosted on NHP-Bhuvan Geo-web portal and interactive feedback session.

NRSC 5th Webinar Series on its Products & Services

On 24th November 2021, NRSC had organized a 5th Webinar of the series on Hydrological Drought Products & Services using Remote Sensing data. The webinar provided an overview of hydrological droughts and their products generated under the National Hydrology Project by NRSC. Sh. Rakesh Kashyap, SJC NHP has done an inaugural address on this event. This program was facilitated by Dr.P.V.Raju, NRSC.

NWIC Online Training on WIMS

On 23rd Nov' 2021, National Informatics Centre (NWIC), has organized a webinar on “Data Entry, Import Tool, Data Validation & Data View”. This webinar was conducted by Mr.Meet Kumar Agarwal from NWIC. There were 32 active participants representing the event from different Water Resource Departments (DWRDs) of several States.

SOI conducts a Residential Training on “Use of CORS & Geoid Model”

The Survey of India (SoI) has organized a physical training at Dehradun on "Use of CORS & Geoid Model” from 24-26 November 2021. The objective of the program was to train the IAs for the use of CORS to identify any geographical location precisely and use of Geoid Model to deduce the orthometric height with the help of GNSS observation. There were classroom sessions, demo sessions, and interactions. Sh Neeraj Gurjar, Director, and Sh Virendra Dutt, Superintending Surveyor of Geodetic & Research Branch of SOI were faculties of the course.
