What is the analytical tools under NHP?

Analytical tools developed under NHP includes various IT application such as GIS based Spatial data analysis software, hydrological and Flood forecasting models, water quality analysis tools, and decision support systems (DSS). These tools enable the Decision makers and stake holders in data analysis, visualization, modeling, and decision-making for effective water management strategies.

It also includes various Digital knowledge products developed such as Drought indices, snow melt runoff products, Glacial lake atlas, daily ET products, Embankment management system etc. which can be used as an input to the developed IT application or information can be directly used in decision making

What can Analytical Tools do?

Analytical tools play a significant role in understanding and addressing complex challenges related to water resources management. Analytical tools used in water resources management can:

  • Provide spatial analysis and visualization of water-related data.
  • Monitor and assess changes in water bodies and land-water interactions.
  • Simulate hydrological processes, such as streamflow and groundwater recharge.
  • Forecast the flood and inundation
  • Evaluate water availability and predict water scarcity or drought-prone regions.
  • Assess the impact of land use changes and climate change on water resources.
  • Analyze water quality parameters and identify sources of pollution.
  • Optimize reservoir operations and water infrastructure planning in basin and sub basin and watershed scale
  • Support decision-making processes through modeling, scenario analysis, Multi criteria and cost benefit analysis
  • Assess the economic and environmental implications of water management strategies.
  • Can help in risk assessment and disaster management related to water resources.

Implementation of Analytical tools under NHP

Analytical tools in form of IT applications, digital knowledge products have been initiated, which include the development of generic decision support systems (DSS) for planning and management, flood forecasting systems, integrated reservoir operations, GW management, extended hydrological prediction for the Narmada, Cauvery, and Yamuna basins, irrigation management systems, hydrological models water balance components, digital knowledge products such as Embankment Asset Management Systems, Glacial Lake Atlases, Snow Melt Run-Off Products, Geo Data Bases, Geoid Models, Evaporation Products, Drought Indexes, and so on.
