  • Surveying & Mapping

  • KERS/Karnataka WRD

Overview

The main objective was imparting theoretical and practical knowledge of Bathymetry survey to Water Resources Engineers. The topics included were 1. The working principle of Bathymetry Survey. 2. The methodology and equipments and softwares adopted in surveying. 3. The procedure of data collection on site. 4. The necessity of estimation of sedimentation of reservoirs in different zones including horizontal zones throughout the reservoirs as well as vertical zones namely (i) Dead storage (ii) live storage (iii) flood storage. 5. Emphasis on the importance of conducting systematic hydrographic surveys at regular intervals for better operation and management of existing reservoirs.

Objective

The Director, Karnataka Engineering Research Station (KERS), KR Sagara organised a one day field training on 20.08.2022 under National Hydrology Project on different aspects of Bathymetric survey. Bathymetry surveying is the science of determining the features of under water depth of a water body. Bathymetric surveys allow us to measure the depth of a water body as well as map the underwater features of a water body. All the trainees were taken to KRS reservoir and were exposed to actual surveying using boat and other related hydrographic equipments
