CBIP Award 2020
National Hydrology Project (NHP) has been awarded with the CBIP Award of Excellence in Water Resources Information System for undertaking the initiative to upscale the web-based centralized Information System for Surface & Groundwater Resources, accessible to all the stakeholders, including the citizen of the country. The Award was conferred on 19th February 2020 in New Delhi.
Shri Subodh Yadav has taken over charge of Project Coordinator, National Project Monitoring Unit (NPMU), NHP, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
3rd International Conference on Sustainable Water Management under National Hydrology will be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan in November, 2020.

A user need survey for “Designing, Developing and Deploying Structure of Master Module for Embankment Asset Management System for River Basin in Bihar with specific Data Population for Gandak Basin” was jointly carried out by LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd. and FMISC, WRD, Bihar at Gopalganj, Bihar on 6th February 2020.
Rajasthan
A Training program was organized from 12-14 February, 2020 on "Integrated Pipe Irrigation and micro irrigation” for the engineers of WRD, Rajasthan in collaboration with CBIP, New Delhi. Total 40 participants attended the training program. This course was intended to enhance the understanding of WR staff in adopting to new technologies in the field of Micro irrigation. In this course expert from industry, academic institute & user’s organization enlightened the participants with their experience.
Agreement signed for “The supply Installation Testing, Commissioning, and Maintenance of Telemetric Digital Water Recorder(TDWLR’S) (hydrostatic pressure type) with telemetry system type in Piezometers for Ground Water Department in Rajasthan” on 24th Feb.,2020.
Financial part of bid opened for "Procurement of machines/Equipment’s for Up gradation of Material Testing Labs, MT Division, ID&R, WR, Jaipur.
Mr L N Thakural & Sanjay Kumar, Scientists from NIH visited Jaipur & Ramgarh catchment area and installed Moisture prob for PDS of Ramgarh catchment. A meeting at SPMU office was also conducted with field officers of Ramgarh catchment to discuss issues related with catchment.
The World Bank consultant Mr. Harshvardhan Sharma visited to SPMU-NHP, WRD Jaipur, and Rajasthan on date- 5th Feb, 2020 for auditing procurement review from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. The Bank Team reviewed the selected procurements to ascertain the compliance to (i) the agreed procurement procedures; (ii) all documentation related to the procurements/contracts is retained by the Implementing Agency; and (iii) the procurement documentation is readily accessible.
CWPRS
CWPRS published bid for procurement of Field Calibrators for Temperature Sensor, Humidity Sensor, Wind Speed Sensor, Wind direction sensor and Rain fall Sensor.
Testing of Electrical Resistivity Imaging system before proceeding to fieldwork was done.
ERI studies are being carried out as a part of geophysical investigations for the PDS - “Study of interaction between surface and subsurface water using remote sensing, geo-hydrological and geophysical techniques integrated with GIS”.
Nagaland
The need for groundwater monitoring was felt by State Government of Nagaland since long for block wise water budgeting for the future planning. Seeing the opportunity under NHP, IA invited Technical Expert, Ground Water from TAMC team to Nagaland this month and discussion were held on groundwater assessment through piezometers in all administrative blocks. Discussion were also held on capacity building of the IA team on technical issues on piezometers design, drawings, Bill of Quantity and specifications etc. Discussion were also held with Directorate of Geology and Mining, Nagaland on groundwater data for finalizing the depth of piezometers.
Meghalaya
A visit to piezometer site at Soil conservation office, Deinchynrum, Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills was made by Technical Expert, GW, TAMC along with Adviser - GW of Implementing Agency & other state officials during 27-29 Feb. 2020. Discussion was held with on design of piezometer and related technical issues to have a common understanding and bring them technically at equal level. Meeting with Add. Chief Engineer of the department was also held to discuss the initiation of procurement process for remaining piezometer
Meghalaya is planning to carry out two studies on:
“Spring inventory in the state and demonstration of spring-shed development at one site” as spring is only source of water in major part of rural area in Meghalaya.
“DSS to provide permission for new groundwater extraction structure based on available data with District Water Resource Committees (DWRC) in each district”. It will help DWRC to monitor the groundwater development and take necessary actions on it.
NCA
A review meeting of Implementing Agencies of Chhattisgarh &Madhya Pradesh was held on 11th February, 2020 at Narmada Bhawan, Office of Executive Member, Narmada Control Authority, Indore. Officials from State Govt. of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, apart from NPMU officials attended the meeting.
NWIC
Pre-bid meeting for Development of Integrated Water and Crop Information and Management System by NWIC was held on 20th Feb., 2020 at New Delhi.
Survey of India
A joint team of NPMU and NWIC officers along with TAMC Experts had a meeting with the Surveyor General of India and other officers of Survey of India on 25th Feb 2020 on the issue of sharing of spatial data available with SOI with NWIC and other Implementing Agencies of NHP. Surveyor General informed that Survey of India is willing to share the data through web services, however, to further firm up the requirement of web feature services or web map services/APIs, the technical experts of TAMC and NWIC need to work together at SOI Dehradun for a couple of days on mutually agreed dates. Accordingly, the meet would be scheduled in March 2020.

Stakeholders workshop at Hyderabad by GWD Telangana
A one-day Stakeholders Workshop on "Data Collection & Dissemination" was organised by Ground Water Department, Government of Telangana on 28th February 2020 under National Hydrology Project at Hyderabad. This workshop was part of Har Kaam Desh Ke Naam campaign. The workshop was attended by senior officials from NPMU Sh. Neeraj Kumar Manglik & Sh. Deepak Kumar Senior Joint Commissioner.
Water Information Management System (WIMS) Training
Hands-on Training was conducted at Vijaywada, AP during17-18th Feb 2020.
Training carried out at NWA, Pune from 25th - 28th February 2020.
3-days days Procurement, MIS and ESHS Workshop was organised during 10-12th Feb by the Implementing Agency, Punjab at Chandigarh with support from NPMU. The Workshop was attended by 70 participants from 23 Implementing Agency. The Topics covered included procurement rules applicable for the Project in the context of Goods, Works and Consultancy Services, Experience sharing, Case Study on the Procurement of Piezometer and SCADA system, Technical issues in the context of Procurement of SCADA system, etc. A comprehensive discussion on Environmental, Social and Health Safeguards, as per World Bank norms was also done. This was followed by Interaction on Technical issues relating to RTDAS system with respect to Contract Management and Arbitration and Management Information system (MIS). The workshop was highly successful with active participation of all the delegates in the discussion.
Workshop on Purpose Driven Studies and Use of Hydrological Information System
A workshop on PDS & HIS was organized by Kerala State Groundwater Department on 26th February 2020 at Thiruvananthapuram under NHP. Dr. D.S.Suresh Babu, Scientist F, National Centre for Earth Science Studies inaugurated the workshop and delivered an insightful presentation on Submarine Groundwater Discharge Investigations along Kerala Coast. The aim of the workshop was to bring awareness about the Purpose Driven Studies. The workshop was attended by officials from Central Groundwater Board, Centre for Water Resource Development and Management, National Centre for Earth Science Studies, Kerala State Land Use Board and Irrigation Department of Kerala, Students and Research Scholars from various organizations. Overview of Hydrological Information System in Groundwater and use of high frequency water level data was presented by Sri. Tomas Scaria, Senior Hydrogeologist, Groundwater Department. All principal investigators of the Purpose Driven Studies presented their objectives of the work.
5-day workshop on "Hydrometry for Observer"
The five-day Workshop-cum-Training on "Hydrometry for Observer" was conducted from 24-28 Feb, 2020 at Nashik under NHP. The main objective was to make aware the newly appointed/newly promoted field officers about taking observations on conventional data collection stations such as SRG, ARG, FCS and GD. The in-house training was followed by a field visit that generated interaction between trainees, trainer and field observers. Total 25 field officers from various areas of the Maharashtra state have participated in the training.
ADCP training Programme on the river Hooghly
About 45 personnel from Govt. of West Bengal attended the ADCP training Programme at Babughat and Tarinipur on river Hooghly organized by West Bengal on 4-5 February 2020. Resource Person from ABS System Pvt Ltd Mumbai ran the MIDAS Surveyor of Valeport by Hypack software and successful connection was made and reading taken. The practical demonstration and training were given on how to take reading through Hyapck. Attempt was also made to synchronise Hypack software with SonTek River Surveyor of Model M9 (ADCP). The two new M9 machines were unpacked by the personnel from A&S Creations and successfully installed.
