A MEETING ON GROUND WATER MODELLING

On February 4, 2022, a groundwater meeting was held under NHP on "Using Satellite Data and Other Global Datasets for Water Resources Assessment, Management, and Water Accounting," as part of the Center of Excellence on Ground Water Modelling's activities.

NPMU VISIT TO HATHNIKUNJ BARRAGE

On the 9th of February 2022, Sh. Vivek Chaudhary, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR, Government of India, visit to the Hathnikunj Barrage in Yamuna Nagar district of Haryana and did inspection. They were accompanied to the field visit by the WRD officials of Haryana. Resource Department had organised presentation on the SCADA HKB project and demonstrated the WJC Canal gate functioning using the SCADA system.

NPMU VISIT TO RAJASTHAN

From 23rd to 26th February 2022, Sh.Rakesh Kashyap, Senior Joint Commissioner (SJC), NPMU along with TAMC team paid a visit to Rajasthan WRD, held a review meeting with the Rajasthan WRD team and conducted an inspection of SCADA and RTDAS.

NPMU takes part in Inter-State Workshop held in Udaipur

On the 25th, Sh.Rakesh Kashyap, SJC-1, NPMU, and Dr.Ashoke Basistha, TAMC, attended a one-day state-level workshop at Udayapur, organised by Rajasthan WRD. Officials from Punjab, Haryana, NHP, Rajasthan, BBMB, and CW were among the other participants.

State IAs presented about their NHP projects and how they're going to help them improve water resource management. The Hon'ble Minister and the IAs were grateful for the platform and support provided by NHP.

IAs promised to cooperate in synergistic approach to make best use of NHP. The notion of SWIC was also generally accepted.

NPMU visit to Karnataka

Mr. Nayeem Ahmad, Instrumentation Expert, TAMC visited Ramanagaram, Kolar, and Bangarapet in Karnataka on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of February 2022 and inspected AWS sites at these places. He was joined by the Karnataka WRD Project Director and his team. During this mission, the team examined the status of RTDAS SW and GW, focusing on general maintenance and management.

On the 18th of February'22, he had a review meeting in Bengaluru with a vendor, Canary's Auto machine, along with the Karnataka WRD team, and discussed the status of the RTDAS SW and further pushed to expedite the implementation process.

Details of the visit for inspection:

• On the 15th of February 2022, a TAMC team visited Kailancha village and conducted a DWLR site assessment in the school grounds, accompanied by a WRD team and a vendor from Bangalore, Karnataka.
  
• On the 15th of February 2022, TAMC team, Karnataka WRD officials and vendor from Bangalore did a site inspection of TRG RTDAS station at Koppa village, Karnataka..
  
• On the 16th of February 2022, TAMC team, Karnataka WRD officials and vendor from Bangalore did a site inspection of AWS station in Kolar Town, Karnataka.
• Site inspection of DWLR station at Ajjapanahalli village in Kolar District of Karnataka.
• On the 17th of February 2022, WRD Bangalore officials, TAMC team and vendor conducted a site inspection of TRG RTDAS station at Bangarapet Town inside a School premises in Karnataka, TAMC.
  
• On February 18, 2022, at the Karnataka WRD headquarters in Bengaluru, conducted a meeting and discussion with vendors Canarys Automation and TAMC concerning RTDAS progress and dates for completion under the NHP.
  

Implementing Agencies spent Rs. 21.82 crore in February 2022 against a released amount of Rs. 73.66 crore for the same period. The National Hydrology Project has spent a total of Rs. 782 crore since its beginning in FY 2016-17 through February 28, 2022. The total amount of money released through February 2022 is Rs. 933 crore.

TELANGANA WRD SIGNS MOU WITH TRAC

On February 2, 2022, the Director of the Telangana State Ground Water Department (TSGWD) and the Adl DG of the Telangana State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (TRAC) Planning Department, Telangana signed a MoU for the geo-tagging of all ground water monitoring stations.

• Conducted slug test on 9th February 2022 in bore well as a part of PDS in Ground water over exploited area. The study in to know the subsurface characteristic for qualification of ground water resource.
  
• As part of the Impact of Sand Mining on Ground Water study, an in-house study was conducted on the 10th of February 2022 in the Manjeera Basin to determine the ground water yields, usage, and requirements.
  
• Field visit on 26.2.22 of site selection for tracer experiment to know the flow direction in PDS.

MEGHALAYA CONDUCTED A TRAINING ON “ADVANCED RIVER SURVEY”

The Meghalaya WRD organised an Advanced River Survey training for the WRD Meghalaya Field Officers on February 14, 2022. Field officers and employees received training on Spring mapping using a smartphone app at the district level.

This was held as part of the National Hydrology Project's Study for River Morphology in the Dudhnoi-Krishnai Catchment, which aimed to identify long-term protective measures for river bank erosion.

The programme was led by Professor Subashisha Dutta of IIT Guwahati's Civil Engineering Department. Theoretical and practical sessions were incorporated in the training.

CWPRS (CENTRAL WATER AND POWER RESEARCH STATION)

Use and utility of field equipment procured under NHP

River surveyor Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) on 4th February commissioning under NHP. The equipment helps flow profile in river and canal. The equipment helps flow profile in river and canal for various water Resources projects.

• Reconnaissance survey conducted with IIT G for River Morphology Study under the National Hydrology Project on 2nd February.
  

Nagaland

On 11th Feb, 2022 a contract agreement was signed between WRD, Nagaland and M/s Alluvium International Pvt. Ltd and M/s Jomiso consulting Pvt Ltd for alleviating water logging problem at critical areas in Dimapur, Nagaland.

Installation of Piezometer (DWLR) taking place at Belonia in South Tripura District. Discharge measuring by ADCP in Feni river in South Tripura District during the visit of Bangladesh delegates.

ASSAM

During the month of February 2022, Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissioning and Maintenance of Real Time Data Acquisition Systems (RTDAS) of Assam under National Hydrology Project. Civil works are completed at various locations in Assam.

YOUNG WATER PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

On the 4th of February, 2012, a virtual workshop for the Young Water Professional Program (YWPP) was held. This event drew a total of 22 participants. Prof. Basant Maheshwari, Western Sydney University, facilitated the event on behalf of the Australia India Water Centre (AIWC). The main themes discussed were "project partners and client selection" for Young Water Professionals to affiliate with and cooperate with.

TRAINING SESSION ON OVERVIEW OF INDIA-WRIS MODULES BY NWIC

On the 9th of February 2022, NWIC hosted a virtual training for NHP implementing agencies on "Overview of India WRIS Modules." The gathering drew 35 officials from both the state and Central governments. This course consisted of a mix of presentations and live demonstrations.

The NWIC team discussed the portal's current modules, data categories, data sources, and data frequency. Under the Tools & Utilities component, participants were also taught how to enter data into the ARS editor platform. Furthermore, the participants' login credentials will be provided with them on a request basis so that they can submit data into the ARS editing platform.

NWIC MEETING WITH IWCIMS

The meeting was organized by NWIC under the guidance of Shri Sriam Vedire, adviser to honorable Minister of Jal Shakti, to review the Satellite data requirements & data-assessment templates for the IWCIMS project. In the meeting, discussions were held regarding the building of applications using satellite imagery and finalizing of data assessment template for IWCIMS.

The meeting was held on 9th February 2022 and attended by representatives of NWIC & WAPCOS.

NWIC HOSTS VIRTUAL TRAINING ON MODULES OF WIMS

For representatives of implementing agencies, the NWIC Team hosted virtual training sessions on Station Management, MIS Dashboard, Data Performance, and WIMS Email & SMS tools. The participants saw demonstrations of the Station Management Module, which allows users to search for and modify existing stations, as well as the 'Manage Contacts' component, which allows users to add and change contacts based on their agency and division.

The team also covered over how to use the MIS Dashboard on the portal to comprehend NHP/Non-NHP data statistics. The session took place on February 10th, 2022, with 35 people in attendance.

NWIC REVIEW MEETING ON IT DEPLOYMENT IN MOJS-IWCIMS

Under the chairmanship of Secretary, DoWR RD & GR, a review meeting on IT deployment at MoJS for building IWCIMS was held.

The discussion was designed to learn about the present status of IT projects in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, as well as their level of development and importance. The group also discussed the viability of integrating existing IT systems with IWCIMS, as well as expectations from various wings and organisations. Officials from the meeting gave their thoughts on whether existing IT systems could be integrated with IWCIMS. In addition, Secretary of the Department of the Interior asked all officials to provide detailed information to NWIC for this initiative.

The meeting was held through VC mode on the 11th of February 2022, with HoDs from various Ministry Wings, Organizations, and Departments in attendance.

INTERNAL TRAINING FOR MEGHALAYA WRD BY IIT, GUWAHATI

On February 14, 2022, IIT Guwahati hosted a one-day physical training on "Advanced River Survey" for field level officials of the WRD of Meghalaya. It was a structured learning programme, which included short films, field survey and desk study practical sessions, assessments, trainer-led interactive group discussions, and one-on-one sessions.

A NRSC TRAINING ON ‘REMOTE SENSING & GIS TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE WATERSHED MANAGEMENT’

A two-week customised virtual training programme on 'Remote Sensing & GIS Technologies for Sustainable Watershed Management' was held at National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) from the 7th to the 18th of February'22 by Water Resources Group (WRG) in collaboration with Training, Education & Outreach Group, Geo-sciences Group, and Rural Development & Watershed Management Division for water resources engineers of Central / State government departments under National Hydrology Project.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic situation throughout the country, the training programme was delivered via Webinar.Dr. Raj Kumar, Director, NRSC, and Dr. V.V. Rao, Deputy Director, Remote Sensing Applications Area, NRSC, launched the training programme on February 7, 2022.

Dr. V.V. Rao, DD (RSAA) and Project Director (NHP) provided an overview of the training programme as well as NHP activities. The keynote address was given to the participants by Dr Raj Kumar, Director of NRSC. This course drew 49 participants from the water resources departments of both the Central and State Governments.

NIH VIRTUAL TRAINING ON “SEDIMENT YIELD AND RESERVOIR SEDIMENTATION”

On 21st-25th February 22, National Institute Hydrology (NIH) had conducted five days online training program on "Sediment Yield & Reservoir Sedimentation.

The key contents were soil erosion and sediment yield, geo-spatial data Sources

Total participants 68. Key contents of the training were CORS Network, its various components and its use for NRTK Survey, Products and Services of CORS, RTK GNSS equipment, Field Software other requirements, Gravimeter Observation, Orthometric Height, Ellipsoidal Height, Geoidal Undulations, Development of Geoid Model and its uses.

NWIC HOSTS WIMS TRAINING ON DATA ENTRY, IMPORT TOOL, DATA VALIDATION

This training consisted of a mix of talks and live demonstrations. The NWIC team discussed the WIMS platform's tools, which include Data Entry, Import Tool, Data Validation, Data View, and Data View Management. Participants were informed on how data from any particular station is processed from the time it is submitted until the end date in the Data Entry section.

Attendees were also shown how data from various stations with varied parameters could be seen and handled in the form of charts, excel reports, and map visualisations during the 'Data View and Data View Management' segment.

The meeting took place on February 24, 2022, with 15 people in attendance.
