Overview

It is one of the World’s great challenges to increase food production in an efficient and sustainable manner so that a rapidly global population can be fed. Irrigation experts are seeking the way in which the water is used very efficiently. So, good and sustainable irrigation project management leads to success of irrigation. The Asset management for irrigation and drainage infrastructure must play an important role to improve the irrigation management process. It also helps in monitoring and evaluation of the irrigation project if data is available on GIS MAP format.

Objective

The aim of this program is to give awareness regarding GIS technology and learn its use to create a basic GIS MAP using Open Source GIS (QGIS 3.12). This training would enable the water professionals to map the Irrigation project Assets like canal network, various civil structures, irrigation command boundary, administrative jurisdiction, rivers, reservoirs, settlements, transportation networks and also in the presentation of data in a GIS MAP format. The program has been designed in such a way that the participants will have to devote only about their two/three hours daily, as per his/her choice, during the training period and will not affect much in their day to-day official work.
