Overview

The training programme provides an overview of inventory and monitoring of glacial lakes using satellite remote sensing data. A brief introduction to remote sensing and GIS along with hand on exercises will be discussed. The program mainly covers satellite data procurement / download from different sources, satellite data interpretation of glacial lakes. The glacial lake mapping and attributes generation using GIS will also be explained. Glacial lake monitoring using recent satellite data with end to end practical exercises will be covered.

Objective

The objective of the course is to introduce principles and applications of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in inventory and monitoring of glacial lakes. Course also aims to develop the skill of using RS& GIS software in monitoring of glacial lakes.
